Rear Fan
A 92mm evercool aluminium fan. It was taken apart, the frame was chromed and drilled, the rear parts vinyl dyed silver and the wires sleeved inside Techflex and aquarium hose. A chrome jack socket was also fitted.
The fan would be mounted externally, so the cable had to pass somehow back into the case. A hole was marked and drilled, with some paper taped on to catch any acrylic shavings from the drilling.
Three of the fan mounting holes were unobstructed, but the lower right hole ran right into the back of the junction cylinder. An M4 stainless hex head bolt was ground down in a bench grinder. Grinding the head on an angle allowed the bolt to fit nicely into the curve behind the cylinder (and be nicely hidden).
The remaining bolts were fitted, incorporating chrome standoffs, and both rubber and stainless washers. I didn't have a chrome 92mm fan guard handy so I made one by cutting down a spare 120mm guard. I wanted a chrome wire guard in order to match the guards on the PSU.
The fan mounted. The chrome guard is held on securely by the same washers and dome nuts securing the fan to the case. The power cable runs back into the case and plugs into another cable...
...which plugs into the fanbus at the front of the case. A closer look at the bolts securing the fan. I liked the look of the bolts protruding into the case.
Even with the whole system being water cooled, I'm still glad to have this fan. With all the covers, etc in the case it will help, although I intend to keep it dialed down fairly low and quiet.
